Welcome! My name is Heather. I have been breeding Halfmoon bettas for about 5 years. As the first member East of Montreal of Betta Breeders Canada, the official Canadian chapter of the International Betta Congress (IBC), my goal is to produce quality halfmoon bettas and promote the health and welfare of all betta species.

I began on my journey with a veiltail betta which I had purchased for my son. I had recently upgraded to a 29 Gallon aquarium for my birthday which was stocked with livebearers. We had so much fun watching little platys and little swordtails grow for us and it was exciting to watch their colors developing. Then one day my son asked me "Why don't we breed 'Rainbow'?"

Thus I embarked on a web search to explain to an 8-year old why I couldn't breed his betta…. The rest is history. After several hours of surfing I decided to get a female for Rainbow and give it a shot. Within a couple of months I caved in to the temptation to buy a gorgeous halfmoon betta off AquaBid. That led to a total of three pair. Today, I have many quality pairs from Thailand and have built a strong rapport with my favorite suppliers on the other side of the world as well as other breeders across Canada.

I no longer have a community aquarium - that 29 Gallon became two 29 Gallon sororities which then became two 55 Gallon planted tanks, two 25 gallon planted tanks, twelve divided 5 gallon tanks with a single filtration system, plus multiple spawn/grow out tanks. I've been playing with several other species as well... I've taken to mollies in a brackish tank, shrimp in their own planted tank, several types of bottom dwellers (weather loach, otocinclus, BNP, zebra pleco, crayfish) and plenty of goldfish and koi in my large outdoor pond.

Currently, I am the Vice-President in the Betta Breeders Canada as well as a moderator on the Canadian Betta Forum. I am also a moderator on the local forum TACONS(The Aquarium Club of Nova Scotia)

I strive to produce show quality Halfmoon bettas and have a special project that I am working on within my breeding program. As a result, I often have a wide variety of colors (and quality) available for sale, but my focus is on the relatively new "dragon" coloration.

If you are new to bettas online, please follow my links to the wonderfully informative and supportive forums where you will find me as "crazy4bettas". Hope to see you there!
