March 24, 2012 - phew - lots of these guys ready to go. I jarred most (if not all) the males in February and moved the remainder into a new tank. They seem to be doing well. I wasn't too far off in my guess on colors - most of the males are green/orange multi-colors with the odd green/red and blue/red multi thrown in. A few of the females are turning whitish colored but I think it's more the marble coloration coming in than anything else. I have sold a few and hope to get some pictures of more this weekend.
February 5, 2012 - These guys are growing nicely and I've jarred several of the males to date. There seem to be lots of females in this spawn, although many of them are still too little to tell for sure. I was right in my guesses on coloration - most of the fry are a blue/red metallic color with some tending toward a coppery tone. There are also some blue cambodian like fry in there who have not yet developed well. I'm curious to see what they will turn out like as they mature.
December 12, 2011 - I moved this spawn into a larger tank a week ago, and removed the male. The new tank also has a bottle filter running. The fry are growing rapidly and there are still tonnes of them in there - I estimate over 100. Some fry are dark while others appear to have a white opacity to them.
November 29, 2011 - There are lots of fry in the tank. I have left the male with the fry to help get nice strong fry. They are on par with the growth chart, although I have seen a few that appear weak. They have been getting BBS daily as well as dry powder food now for at least a week. Still no idea on colors - most of the fry seem to have an opacity or dragon look to them, but it's still pretty hard to tell.
November 15, 2011 - Spawned today.
This male was purchased to cross with my copper/orange dragon F1, but he is BIG and the females of the spawn are soooo small. He would have them for lunch if I tried to put them together now - there is no way he'll be able to wrap around her because of the size difference. He is so eager to build nests that I just had to give him a try.
So, trying to consider what to spawn him with and what I have available. I'm not going to cross him with a CT although the CT girls are plenty big enough. I have a blue/purple MG but I don't think that would be a good cross. The yellow female is not likely a good candidate, especially since I'm trying to spawn her to a yellow male. That leaves blue or opaque. I know copper and opaque are "blue" genes, so either would likely be as good as the other. The opaque are HM while the blues are HMPK, so my choice comes down to opaque. Very curious to see what the result will be.... my guess - blue/red or blue/orange multies.
